The data collection process collects conditions that are found on the Patient View > Current Problems and Past History tabs. It will also collect coded problems entered in the consult window as a 'presenting problem'. In all cases the ICPC Code needs to be present for CAT4 to extract the condition information.
This list will be reviewed by our clinical advisors and occasionally can be changed to include new conditions and to revise the criteria. Please also refer to the mapping guides for your clinical system on the details of what CAT4 maps to the conditions listed in this table. ICPC-2 Plus Mapping Reference
Genie uses ICPC-2 PLUS coding to record diagnosis and other coded items. Groups of appropriate ICPC-2 PLUS codes for Pen Computer's CAT condition categories have been developed in collaboration between the Family Medicine Research Centre (responsible for ICPC-2 PLUS), Pen Computer Systems and the Improvement Foundation.
There are three types of ICPC-2/ICPC-2 PLUS codes listed in the document:
•Grouper codes – three character codes that start with the letter G (e.g. G25)
•ICPC-2 rubric codes – three character codes that start with any letter other than G (e.g. K77, T89)
•ICPC-2 PLUS codes – six character codes (e.g. R99018).
ICPC-2 PLUS users always record data at the level of the six character ICPC-2 PLUS codes (e.g. R99018). Due to the natural grouping mechanisms within ICPC-2 PLUS, all six character codes can be grouped together using the ICPC-2 rubric code, which is represented in the first three characters of the six character code (e.g. in the example R99018 the ICPC-2 rubric code is R99). The six character ICPC-2 PLUS codes included in each three character ICPC-2 code are listed in the two right hand columns of the grouper document.
Sometimes, there are similar ICPC-2 PLUS terms that fall into different ICPC-2 codes. This requires grouping of multiple ICPC-2 codes and sometimes, the grouping of multiple ICPC-2 PLUS codes that cross over ICPC-2 classification codes. Standard grouper (G) codes were created to facilitate searches in such circumstances.
Full explanations of each type of code can be found in the document ICPC-2 PLUS Functionality requirements for developers.
Wherever possible, the groupers contained in the document have been created using existing ICPC-2 PLUS grouping mechanisms. However, in some scenarios the CAT condition categories differed to existing ICPC-2 PLUS rubrics or groupers. As a result, the associated document provides a detailed overview the correct ICPC-2 PLUS codes to use for each PEN CAT category.
There are some CAT categories that do not fit within existing ICPC-2 rubrics or groupers, or where there are CAT categories with a different definition to that currently used within the existing rubrics or groupers. The Family Medicine Research Centre will work over the coming months to automate the inclusion of these groupers within the ICPC-2 PLUS CSV files by creating a new set of groupers specifically for clinical audit activities. These should be made available to developers in the April 2014 ICPC-2 PLUS release, for implementation within your data analysis and modules.
Any questions about the grouper mechanism in ICPC-2 PLUS, or how to apply the groups included in the associated document within your EHR should be directed to the Family Medicine Research Centre.
Please refer to the ICPC-2 PLUS GROUPERS FOR USE IN CAT4 document for full details on each condition and the relevant codes and groupings. This document will be updated in line with changes to ICPC-2 Plus, currently it is dated April 2015.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is true if the a pregnancy record has been created for the patient using Ctrl-Shift-P and the record has been populated with the minimum data. There seems to be no other way to see if a patient is pregnant but using the Ctrl-Shift-P shortcut to open the existing record.
